Hawaii County officials informed the union late Friday night that it is now targeting payments by the end of July for temporary hazard pay, a one-month delay in their previous plan to disburse payments by the end of this month.
While the union has little control over the county’s process, rest assured that we continue to push for payments to go out as soon as possible. Should there be a change in the timeline, we will update you with those specifics.
As you might recall, Mayor Kimo Alameda said in March that he planned to abide by the amended decision of a 15% hazard pay differential to all employees who worked during the two-year period of the pandemic. The arbitrator in this case had initially ruled employees would get a limited payout for a maximum of six months, which we promptly appealed. We made a strong case that you kept the county running during the COVID-19 pandemic, and you deserve fair compensation for it. In the end the arbitrator saw it our way.
Mahalo for your patience and remaining #HGEAStrong!
