Dear Subscriber,
After deliberation, the Unit 14 negotiation team has decided to go to arbitration. They believe that this is the best way forward after reaching impasse with the employer for a new contract beginning July 1.
In an effort to secure larger and permanent annual raises, the team proposed higher across-the-board raises in exchange for eliminating the costs associated with the step movement plan.
The employer responded with the same offer made to all of HGEA’s bargaining units – an approximate 16% increase over a four-year contract.
While this proposal may be better than previous years, the majority of feedback that the team received from fellow Unit 14 members expressed the desire to pursue a more robust compensation increase through the arbitration process.
As a result, they rejected the employer’s offer and are seeking to secure a larger across-the-board raise through interest arbitration.
We’ll provide updates on the arbitration process and timeframes to you as soon as we receive that information. Mahalo for staying HGEA strong.
