Joycelyn “Jolly” Iwata, Unit 13 member, has dedicated the past 30 years of her career to serving the people in her community as an administrative professional. She’s also passionate about fighting for fellow public employees and building a strong union in her current position of Unit 13 director on the HGEA Board of Directors.

After securing major wins in this year’s legislative session like the confirmation of our Hawaii Labor Relations Board representative and passage of the repricing bill, HGEA’s political action committees have started working on our 2025 legislative priorities. This is your chance to let us know if you have an idea for a new law or how to improve a current one. Submit your proposal for consideration by Friday, Oct. 4.

Labor union support among Americans remains at the highest level since 1965, according to a recent Gallup poll. With 70% saying they have a favorable opinion of unions, this marks a steady increase in support for labor since 2009.
The poll also found that the 67% of Americans say the Democratic Party best serves the interests of union members compared to only 27% for the Republican Party. These findings are relatively unchanged from polling going back to the 80s and 90s.
