After a rigorous vetting process, the HGEA board of directors approved the full slate of general election endorsements. This list is comprised of candidates who share our union’s values. Electing labor-friendly lawmakers means better laws and quality of life for Hawaii’s working families, so please consider voting for these candidates when you cast your ballot.
Ballots will be mailed to you around Oct. 18. Be sure to mail yours back early and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

HGEA is endorsing Dr. Kimo Alameda for Hawaii County mayor this general election. Dr. Alameda is quite familiar with county government, having served in the administrations of Mayors Billy Kenoi and Harry Kim. He is a community health advocate who led the Hawaii Island Fentanyl Task Force to address a serious community health crisis.
He’s facing a tough race against incumbent opponent Mitch Roth whose administration has led to an uptick in routine contract violations and left the county workforce feeling demoralized.
