HGEA Files Class Grievance
Here’s how we’re fighting for you.

HGEA has filed a class grievance on behalf of all Unit 9 members in the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation-East Hawaii Region due to ongoing payroll issues that have resulted in both overpayments and underpayments.
These issues have been vast, varied, persistent, and are affecting the financial stability of many of our members. We are:
- Demanding an independent, external audit of payroll records for all Unit 9 employees in the impacted region
- Requesting accounting services for each impacted employee to verify what is owed or due
- Calling for an immediate cease and desist of all attempts by the employer to collect overpayments until these issues are properly sorted out
We understand the significant stress these payroll errors have caused, and we are committed to resolving this fairly and accurately. You should not be penalized for errors beyond your control.
The employer has agreed to cease any collection activities. If you are being contacted about repayment or have questions about your specific situation, please contact your HGEA union agent as soon as possible.

Update on Temporary Hazard Pay
TEMPORARY HAZARD PAY
Hawaii County
The county is targeting end of June for THP payments.
Some of you have inquired about when you should expect payouts from Hawaii County for temporary hazard pay, as awarded in the February arbitration decision. The county has confirmed that they are still targeting the end of this month for THP payments to county employees.
The county did not provide exact dates for payouts, but as always, we will update you when more specifics are available.
As you might recall, Mayor Kimo Alameda said in March that he planned to abide by the amended decision of a 15% hazard pay differential to all employees who worked during the two-year period of the pandemic. The arbitrator in this case had initially ruled employees would get a limited payout for a maximum of six months, which we promptly appealed. We made a strong case that you kept the county running during the COVID-19 pandemic, and you deserve fair compensation for it. In the end the arbitrator saw it our way.
