Kauai County’s Proposal Documents:
The County of Kauai is offering to increase the amount of their contributions toward employees’ health benefit premiums effective September 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. Kauai County members in Units 2, 3, 4, 13 and 15 voted in a ratification that ended on June 19.
Under the proposed agreement, the county will pay:
- 100% of the premium and administrative cost of the HMSA 75/25 PPO plan or the Kaiser Standard HMO plan vs. current 90%.
- 100% of the premium and administrative cost of the Verdegard Supplemental Medical and Prescription Drug plan vs. current 60%.
- 100% of the premium and administrative cost for dental and vision coverage vs. current 60%.
- $200 per month for employees not enrolled in any of the county’s medical coverage plans.
As previously reported, the county is not offering to increase the employer contributions for higher coverage plans. In the interest of equity and fairness, HGEA has continuously asked that these subsidies be extended to all employees. The county’s position has not changed.
Since the impact of this proposal differs depending on your medical and financial situation, HGEA is NOT making a recommendation on whether you should accept or reject this supplemental agreement from the county.
