Welcome back to The Negotiation Table!
Speaker Scott Saiki is a critical ally in the state Legislature, ensuring your rights are respected and public employees are treated fairly. When the pandemic hit, he opposed employee furloughs and continues to champion the funding of our pay increases.
Labor now has a real seat at the table on the Hawaii Labor Relations Board thanks to his leadership. Let’s get out there and support Scott with our votes.

HGEA continues to fight for fair compensation on behalf of employees who were exposed to COVID-19. We appreciate your patience as we continue to work through negotiations with the various jurisdictions.
Here’s where some of our cases currently stand:
Department of Education — A vote on the department’s settlement offer was paused so we could work out reasonable workday requirements for the compensation tiers. A revised agreement is awaiting approval from Gov. Green.
Hawaii County — Mayor Mitch Roth offered an unacceptable settlement (watch Randy’s latest video). We are pressing forward with Phase II of the arbitration, scheduled for August.
Kauai County — We are in the process of negotiating more fair settlement terms based on an unacceptable offer by Mayor Derek Kawakami. We are also forging ahead on Phase II of the arbitration.
For more information on these cases or for jurisdictions not listed here, visit our THP Update page.
