Whether it’s state or local county government, everywhere we look we’re finding that departments are understaffed and HGEA members are putting in heroic efforts to keep up the quality of services despite vacancy rates of upwards of 40%. In fact, recent reports on the county and state levels point toward an employment crisis of the likes we’ve never seen before in Hawaii. What is driving this problem? Where are all the workers? And is there a way out of this?
Mahalo to Karen Kama, Unit 13 speech pathologist, and Scott Collins, HGEA field services officer for MSC/Advocacy, for joining us on this important discussion.
